Lazy Days...

I think January has got to be the most boring month of the year. All of the holiday celebrations are over and we are left with cold, dark days. However, I think we have rather enjoyed our January thus far. We sure have got to spend a lot of time together, but not a whole lot of traveling.

In the meantime, Matt and I have both read quite a few books (we got some new ones for Christmas) One in particular, Three Against Hitler.

Ok, of course I learned about Hitler and the Nazi's in high school, and then I moved to Germany and got to go to a concentration camp and see for myself what went on, but it wasn't until after I read this book that I realized what a terrible time it was for everyone- and the lives that they lived, in fear. Anyway, the book is about 3 Young mormon boys who stood up for what they felt was right. And it was Excellent!

Colton has been growing and learning something new every day. He is really into "Sharing" his toys. OK, maybe just with me, but I end up with piles of toys/random objects in my lap all day because he comes and delivers them to me :)

Ya- I dressed him in high socks and shorts!

My boys playing on their computers...nerds

In Matt's last game he got elbowed in the head, and this was the result. 3 staples in his head- and he got them put in right in the middle of the game...intense!

Doesn't look too bad now, but really does he have to be that unhappy??

Anyway, I am getting excited to go home in a few days. I have been kind of sad about leaving Matt/Germany. I keep thinking we only have a few months left here and I should make the most of this experience, but it's only 3 weeks.... My friend, Sylke is coming with me for the first week and a half, so I am excited!! #1 to show her around and let her meet the whole family and #2 To have someone on the plane one way to help walk Colton around :) YAY!!

Nothing like a good workout...

Since I got out of high school (ok maybe a little in High School too) I have been obsessed with working out. In college, obviously, playing basketball made me work out- but I even went above and beyond that and would run after pracitce/on a day off. Throughout my entire pregnancy I did some kind of work out AT least 5 days a week. After I had Colton, I continued working out..bla bla bla.
ANYWAY- Since our arrival in Germany, I have not gone to the gym once (until 2 weeks ago). When we got here, they told us we had a free gym membership to a nice gym, and nope- I didn't use it. I have been walking every day and doing a few things at home, but I can't count that as officially Working OUT! So, last week- one of Matt's teammates wives, who is also American and has a 4 month old baby- and I started going to the gym. Wow, what was I thinking missing those 4 months??? We have gone every day and lifted hard/did cardio/abs/and stretched and I feel SO great! If anyone needs a boost of energy in these cold and dark winter months- start a work out program :)

Happy New Years!

We had a great New Years spending time with Friends!
We went to Sylke's husband's cousin's house...Anina and her 2 adorable kids, Caroline and Dominic. We had Great German Cuisine, played some Wii, and Colton enjoyed playing with some other kids!

Christian and Colton

Sylke had a fun "wishing" game. We all wrote down a wish on a piece of paper, and lit it on fire and it flew up in the air and turned into dust. Kind of fun!

Colty

Christian, Matt, and Dominic out in the snow--lighting some firecrackers!

Hanging out :)

We are SO grateful for the amazing people we have met here in Germany. This whole experience would not be the same without our good friends!
We are excited for the New Year and look forward to many more memories!
P.S. Today in Germany was Another Holiday where everything was closed, that means 8 days out of the past 2 weeks, everything has been closed- Wow. I don't think there are more than 2 days a year in America where Everything is closed! It would be really nice- IF I knew when these days were coming up so I could be a little bit more prepared, but it worked out :)

I'm going to America! :)

SOOOOO....After a LONG weekend in German, I bought my plane ticket to FLY home for 3 weeks!!! This is something I have been DEBATING for months...do I need to?? is it worth it?? can i leave matt all alone for that long?? bla bla bla. Anyway- I finally decided, no I don't need to, but YES it will be worth it!
And after our weekend I decided I was ready for some luxuries from home (ok, the weekend wasn't THAT bad) Saturday morning we got up, and we HAD to go to the store since they had been closed for 2 days. So, we all get bundled up, go scrape off the snow off of our car that continues to fall, and drive to the store. We have to park 3 miles away because we are still driving a van and the parking spots are made for the size of motorcyles, and we get out of the car to the shopping cart to realize we don't have a EURO. You had to put a Euro in in order to get a shopping cart. UNbelievable. Matt refuses to beg for a Euro (ok..I wouldn't either) So we went back home with no food and Matt had to go to shoot around.
Also--Matt's team lost and it was a little frustrating again--but Colty and I sure had fun :)
Sunday morning, we woke up bright and early, got all bundled AGain and scraped off the van, and climbed in for our 45 minute drive to church, but since it was snowing so bad it took over an hour. We arrive at church to find all of the front parking spots are full, so we try to drive to the back where our real church parking lot is (basically down 5 little alley-ways) and we look over and there are 2 cars stuck in the snow in the direction we are supposed to go. So- we turn around (After sliding around in the snow for 5 minutes) and try and find a spot somewhere on the street, but we get stuck time after time and there are no parking spots. After about 30 minutes, we decide it's no use- and Drive on back home. Talk about a bummer. So, after almost 3 hours of sitting in the car, we all came home and made homemade pancakes (the only food we had) and took 3 hour naps :)
Anyway, after my lovely 3 hour nap, I decided I was purchasing that ticket to come home. Thanks to my amazing husband, who has been encouraging me to do this, I get to enjoy a comfy bed, carpet, TV, fresh milk, soft bread, going to the movies :), watching college basketball, etc. etc. but most importantly-- being with family/friends, and Colton getting to see his whole everybody!!

Also-- I finally downloaded the pictures from MY camera (all of the previous were pictures on Sari's camera) and I only had a few but thought they were cute :)

And...Colton with Uncle Tuvy

I also HAD to put this picture in here. It wouldn't be Germany without Cuckoo Clocks :)

Best Friends :)
